ADAM IDAH SWANSEA MOVE: THE BEST FOR CELTIC AND THE PLAYER?

Adam Idah: A player who certainly divides fan opinion.
Adam Idah: A player who certainly divides fan opinion.

Today, I awoke to reports linking Adam Idah, Celtic’s much maligned number nine, with a move to Swansea City.

Having heard from sources linked directly to Swansea, it sees there is a strong basis to this story.

The question is, is this right time for the player to move on, and do Celtic have enough time to get a replacement number 9 in?

I say, yes on both counts, but this is a complicated issue, so if you’ll indulge me, please let me explain why.

If Adam Idah Swansea Deal Goes Through, it’s a Fresh Start for Player and Club

I won’t speculate on what exactly is going on in Adam Idah’s head right now. Firstly, I’m not remotely qualified to do so. And secondly, more importantly, its none of my business.

However, it’s undeniable that all is not right with the player at the moment. His penalty miss on Tuesday pretty much summed up the last few months for the player. Effort, frustration, lack of concentration and ultimately, no end product.

It remains to be seen if an Adam Idah Swansea move would be permanent or a loan. However, murmurings suggest that whilst Celtic will undoubtedly have to take a hit on the 9.5 million we paid to secure the Irish striker on a permanent deal from Norwich, Swansea are willing to pay a substantial fee to acquire the man who at 24 already has more than 30 international caps to his name.

Also, Swansea’s 4-2-3-1 formation may well better suit Idah’s style of play. For the Republic of Ireland, he typically operates as part of a conventional 4-4-2. However, Swansea’s formation allows not only for wingers to supply the firepower Idah needs, but also for an additional strike partner to step forward from the number 10 role, and support him.

Idah has often cut an isolated figure in recent months at Celtic. There is an ongoing debate among Celtic’s support as to whether the loss of form is entirely the players fault or if he just isn’t getting the service he needs.

He would certainly get better service in the set-up that Swansea play. As to whether or not he can then recapture his goalscoring form, well, that’s on him.

We’ve seen this story several times before in Celtic’s recent history. Players who have come to Celtic with decent reputations, players of undeniable quality and potential. However, for one reason or another it just hasn’t worked out,

I am beginning to think we’ve now reached that point with Adam Idah. His half time withdrawal last week, followed by his penalty miss this week, kind of sealed the deal as far as I am concerned.

I wish the big man nothing but the best for his future, but I think for his sake, and Celtic’s that future will lie away from Glasgow.
