AFTER BASELESS ATTACKS ON WILFRIED NANCY IT'S TIME TO BAN THE DAILY RECORD FOR GOOD

Ryan Stevenson is in no position to be commenting on anyone else's DNA.
Ryan Stevenson is in no position to be commenting on anyone else's DNA.

“Don’t take the bait” I’m often told. “They’re only saying it to get clicks and attention.”

Both statements are true when it comes to the Scottish Tabloid Press, especially with regards to all things Celtic.

However, sometimes they spout a line of effluence so offensively off track, so blatantly below the belt, that I feel compelled to respond. This is one of those times.

Criticism is one thing, and where it’s valid, I’ll listen. Personal attacks however, should always be off the table. So, to see The Daily Record give Hearts, ahem, “icon” Ryan Stevenson an unrestricted platform to mock the new Celtic Manager Wilfried Nancy, with their sporting excrement-in-chief, Keith Jackson as a willing enabler, is simply disgraceful.

No Critique of Wilfried Nancy’s Tactics, Instead it’s all about Shoes and Whiteboards

Yeah, you read that sub-heading correctly, apparently Wilfried Nancy’s choice of footwear is fair game now when critiquing his ability as a football manager.

Ryan Stevenson (by the way, what did he ever do, apart from yesterday’s child-like scribblings against Celtic, to earn the title of “Hearts Icon”?)

Stevenson said: “There’s a certain DNA to clubs like Celtic. So, when a new manager arrives and starts pulling out tactics boards and green trainers you have to ask yourself, ‘What are we actually dealing with here?”

First of all, what the hell would a guy whose career peaked during his limited stint as an Ipswich Town squad player in the English 2nd tier know about the standards of clubs like Celtic?

Second, has the guy looked in a mirror lately? With more tattoos than a Mexican cartel member, yet absolutely none of the intimidation factor, he’s really not in a position to be critiquing anyone’s fashion sense.

Talking about Celtic’s DNA? This guy looks like he’s got enough rogue DNA flying about in his genetic code to engineer a new pandemic!

I don’t care if Wilfried Nancy uses visual aids to communicate his tactics while he adjusts to a new footballing culture, and let’s be honest, a new language with the Glasgow dialect.

I don’t care if he shows up wearing green Adidas shoes, clown shoes or moon boots.

I care if he wins or loses football matches. That’s what he’s paid to do and that’s all that matters.

And as anyone with a functioning brain stem will tell you, one game alone is nowhere near enough to judge a manager’s capability or suitability for the Celtic job.

So, I’ll take no lectures on what’s appropriate for Celtic from crayon-munching Neanderthals like Stevenson, or their enablers in the tabloid press, and neither should our new manager.

Stevenson is clearly trying to carve a niche for himself as a Hearts equivalent to Chris Sutton in the media.

Unfortunately for him, where Sutton offers astute, honest punditry, and plenty of dry humor, the best Stevenson can offer is cheap jibes and a single digit IQ.

I would hope the Daily Record see sense and make sure this is the last time this clown is given free reign to insult our players and staff.

I would also hope our club’s media team would finally do something right for a change and ban this rag from Celtic Park for good. Afterall, they banned Fan Media last week for far less.

I won’t hold my breath waiting for either of these outcomes though.
