ARE BRENDAN RODGERS AND THE CELTIC BOARD “ON THE SAME PAGE”?

This is the big question that seems to be vexing many of our fans, and dictating the discourse online around Celtic this afternoon.

The manager once again reiterated, after our 5-1 humbling to Ajax, that he hopes to bring in the extra quality we need for the squad to progress.


Meanwhile official club social accounts are silent, unless they’ve got more Adidas tat to sell.

Everything points to a manager and his bosses in the boardroom being badly out of sync. Or is it just that, as usual, Celtic’s media managers continue to suffer from a chronic inability to read the room?

In any line of business, once an employee and the company owner’s priorities no longer align, questions will, inevitably start to be asked about that employee’s future. Be they a footballer or a financier, the basic principle is the same.

Now are Brendan Rodgers and The Celtic Board at this stage now?

Some of the online chatter would suggest so. While I personally don’t agree with the assertion of some of my fellow Celtic bloggers that some elements of the Celtic Board actively want the manager gone, I can certainly see why they would draw that conclusion.


And let’s be honest, the lack of any messaging, other than commercial, from the club in an official capacity is very disconcerting.

By the time the new season kicks off next week, we may well be into double figures in terms of the numbers of new merchandize launches we’ve had during the close season.


Yet so far Kieran Tierney and Benjamin Nygren are the only two assured first team players in the door. Meanwhile Nicholas Kuhn, Greg Taylor and a host of other first team squad members have headed in the opposite direction.

I’m not at the panic stage yet, but a little bit of communication would go a long way. We’ve still yet to hear anything publicly from our new head of recruitment Paul Tisdale, and he’s coming up on 10 months in the job.


If our Chief Executive Michael Nicholson doesn’t make a public appearance soon, I may start to wonder if he’s actually a real person or just some kind of elaborate chatbot.

Ok, I’m exaggerating a bit here, but you can see where I’m coming from. Celtic fans would be a lot less worried, and a lot less fractious than we are right now if the board would just engage with us. Talk to us, tell us what’s going on.


Say what you will about that mob across the city, and the calibre of players they are signing, but the one thing you can’t accuse them of is being inactive or uncommunicative.

They have a clear and unified message coming out of their club. We currently don’t. And that’s why so many of us are getting anxious, about the manager’s future, about new signings coming in, and most of all about our impending European playoff.


I don’t know if its arrogance, incompetence or maybe a bit of both, but the Celtic Board need to drop this high and mighty attitude and start actually communicating with the fans.

After all, we pay their wages. They work for us, not the other way round. Maybe some of them need reminded of that simple fact.

We know we can’t trust the media to tell us honestly what’s going on. Now more than ever, we need clear and cohesive messaging from The Celtic Board, the Manager and all other departments of the club.


If we got that, I, and probably a great many others, might just be a wee bit more inclined to buy one of those over-priced kits they’ve launched recently.

It’s not just fan goodwill that’s being damaged by the current lack of cohesion at Celtic. Eventually it’s going to start hitting out board and their friends at Adidas where it hurts most: their profits.
