Over the years we’ve seen numerous efforts lead to permanent memorials for members of Celtic’s European Cup winning team of 1967.
Celtic Park currently has permanent statues in place for our greatest ever manager, Jock Stein, our greatest ever captain Billy McNeill, and our greatest ever player Jimmy “Jinky” Johnstone.

To add to this, we have seen the recent additions of statues of Bobby Lennox and Tommy Gemmell in their respective birthplaces, as well as similar local tributes to Billy McNeill and Jinky in their hometowns too.
Now, a campaign will launch next week, to hopefully give another of the Lisbon Lions a permanent tribute in his birthplace. That man is Jim Craig and the new statue will, hopefully, soon be erected in Govan.
Celtic Legends Peter Grant and Frank McAvennie Help Launch Statue Campaign
The Jim Craig Govan Foundation will officially unveil their plans for the statue at an event on March 25th. Foundation Chairman Matt McGlone will be joined by renowned sculptor John McKenna at the Glasgow Irish Centre in Candleriggs, Glasgow.
Also present will be more recent Celtic Legends Peter Grant and Frank McAvennie, from the double winning side of Celtic’s centenary season and, of course, the man himself, Jim Craig.
The launch event kicks off at 1pm with an introductory talk and rundown of the foundation aims from Mr McGlone.

Thereafter, there will be a question and answer session on the foundation’s aims featuring Jim Craig, his fellow Celtic stars Peter Grant and Frank McAvennie, as well as the opportunity to put further questions about the project to Matt McGlone and sculptor John McKenna.
We at ACSOM look forward to the day when each and every one of the Lisbon Lions has their own permanent memorials across Scotland.
Until then, we are delighted to offer the Jim Craig Govan Foundation our full support, and we look forward to seeing Jim Craig receive this long overdue and historic honor.
