To quote myself on today’s ACSOM post-match bulletin: “Alan Shearer, Peter Beardsley, Paul Gascoigne, Jimmy Nail! Your boys took a hell of a beating!

Yes, there will be a lot of gloating in this blog, and I make no apologies for doing so. For years, we have been forced to sit back and listen as the English media branded us “a pub league”, “a farmers league”, a one-team show, and so on.

Well, the farmer’s league champions just took the richest team in your money-soaked sham of a league and absolutely destroyed them!

Celtic: Newcastle Blown Away by an Incredible Performance from The Bhoys

This wasn’t supposed to be an easy game for Celtic, Newcastle, in all expectation, given the massive financial gap, should have battered us. And yet, here we are, a 4-0 win, a commanding performance and several questions answered about some of the Celtic squad.

The man of the hour was Auston Trusty. Maybe as a former Sheffield United player, who struggled in the EPL, he felt he had a point to prove. I don’t know, but in any case, the big American was absolutely immense. Nothing got by him today.

A shout out also for Hayato Inamura. He is another player who went into today’s game with several question marks hanging over him. Was he brought in as a genuine first team member or as a development player to be loaned out?

Well, I think after today, and his strong showing in the previous three matches we can say that he has earned the right to stay on as Kieran Tierney’s deputy for the season ahead. I have hope that Inamura and Tierney can go on to form a similar “master and apprentice” relationship to that of Kasper Schmeichel and Viljami Sinisalo this season.

Also, a brief mention to the hundred or so members of the Union Bears, who allegedly bought tickets for the Newcastle end today.

Hope you all had a good afternoon guys, and thank you for all the extra revenue you brought to the Champions! It’s too bad you all left after the 3rd goal and couldn’t stick around to see Celtic lift the trophy.

There will plenty of editorials, commentary pieces and opinionated outbursts in the media over the next few days trying to downplay this result.

Ignore them.

We beat the richest team in world football, and we beat them comprehensively. The best part is: we are nowhere near our peak yet.

We still have Shin Yamada and at least 3 or 4 more players to come in. We still have the likes of Alistair Johnston, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Jota to come back too.

This is just the beginning.

Enjoy tonight. It might just be a pre-season game, but you better believe, if the other side of the city had managed such a result, it would have been hailed as the greatest victory of an underdog since Rocky Balboa leathered Ivan Drago.

We are in a good place now. There are still issues to overcome, players to be signed, and the club need to get real with the amount of merch they are pushing out. But none of that matters for today. Enjoy this. I certainly will!
