FOR CELTIC FANS, SCOTTISH FOOTBALL IS OFTEN TEDIOUS, BUT WINNING TREBLES WILL NEVER GET OLD

Yesterday’s anti-Celtic rant in the Daily Mail was so universally ridiculed by Celtic fans it has become almost a self-parody.
Here’s the bizarre thing though, the writer said one thing I do agree with, albeit for entirely different reasons.
Scottish football is, at times, tedious, boring and uninspiring, but it’s got nothing to do with Celtic.
What Celtic Fans Find Tedious About Scottish Football
You know what is the most tedious thing about Scottish football, in my opinion? It’s having to play the same teams 4 times in a 10-month season.
We’ve played St. Johnstone twice in the last two weeks, having already played them twice previously this season. Had they finished in the top 6, we would have had to play them again this month or next.
You can criticize Celtic for plenty of things, but I’ll take no lectures on tedium or banality from fans of clubs who frequently vote against changing a league and cup set up that means teams could potentially play each other 6 times in one season.

As I said on the ACSOM Bulletin the other day, the most interesting game I’ve seen at Celtic Park this season came courtesy of Falkirk.
Unlike most of the teams in the current top flight, they didn’t adopt a “10-men behind the ball” damage limitation stance when they played us in the League Cup.
They played open, attractive football. On another day, with a bit more luck, they may well have gotten a result against Celtic.
I have no doubt that Falkirk will be an asset to the Scottish Premiership next season. I don't expect our media to say much about that though.
Arguably the most intriguing game for any neutrals this season was a similar scenario which saw second tier strugglers Queens Park go one better than Falkirk and dump Rangers out of the Scottish Cup.
You can’t tell me that these two teams, along with the likes of Partick Thistle, Ayr United and others in the Championship wouldn’t bring something interesting and different to our stale top-flight.
The other thing which I think I think plenty of Celtic fans will agree with me is exceptionally tedious in Scottish football, is the complete lack of enthusiasm for the game shown by our journalists, both broadcast and print.
Every day, it’s a cornucopia of misery and pessimism in the papers and on the radio.
Celtic came within seconds of beating Bayern Munich this season. Rangers too had a very creditable run in the Europa League.
But no, journalists aren’t interested in that. They just want to run the game down, to constantly reinforce the inferiority complex that holds back so many aspects of Scottish society, beyond just sport.
It’s sad, it’s pathetic and it’s also embarrassingly predictable.
Celtic don’t need to lower our standards to make the game more interesting. Scottish football needs to catch up.
Having a media that doesn’t denigrate our national game or our strongest team at every turn would be a good start.
