There was an expectation that Celtic's goalkeeper search would have gone into overdrive in the weeks following Joe Hart's retirement announcement last season.
So many goalkeepers from all over Europe were touted as Hart's successor that it became difficult to distinguish the truth from the tabloid gossip and agent-pushed links.
The club was under pressure to buy big and replace our talismanic keeper with someone in the mould of Real Madrid's Andriy Lunin or Liverpool's Caoimhin Kelleher, but Brendan Rodgers did something completely different.
When you look back at some of our potential targets during the summer of 2024, it makes you appreciate just who we decided to make our new number one:
Koen Casteels - Wolfsburg to Al-Qadsiah (Free)
When Stephen McGowan breaks a Celtic story, you can rest assured that there is some substance to it. With this in mind, it was interesting when the journalist linked Celtic to Wolfsburg's then 31-year-old stopper Koen Casteels.
The Belgian cap was heading towards the end of his time at the Bundesliga club after nine years in which he established himself as first-choice goalkeeper and became a full international.
Celtic and Anderlecht were interested, but Casteels opted to sign for Al-Qadsiah in the Saudi Pro League. His newly-promoted side are doing well in third place, but he has since quit international football.
Liam Kelly - Motherwell to Rangers (Free)
Another tip from Stephen McGowan was that Celtic were interested in bringing Motherwell goalkeeper, Liam Kelly, into the fold.
Kelly was well-known to Celtic goalkeeping coach, Stevie Woods, who had worked with the Fir Park stopper on Scotland duty, and it looked like he was being considered as a back-up option.
When Kelly made the move to Glasgow, however, it was back to Ibrox, where he had spent his formative years as a professional.
Uğurcan Çakır - Trabzonspor
Turkish media outlet InternetHaber reported that Çakır would be leaving Turkish giants Trabzonspor in the summer to be replaced by Manchester United's Altay Bayındır.
Celtic were one of the clubs linked with Trabzonspor's 28-year-old captain with a suggested fee in the region of £7million.
With a Champions League campaign on the horizon, the price tag failed to raise many eyebrows amongst the Celtic support, but Çakır stayed put and has played all but one game for Trabzonspor in what has been a disappointing season.
Anthony Patterson - Sunderland
According to the Sunderland Echo, Sunderland's England Under-21 keeper, Anthony Patterson, was attracting interest from Celtic, Arsenal and Liverpool in the summer.
The 24-year-old was valued in the £10million bracket, despite never having played above English Championship level. Although those transfer are ten-a-penny down south, it would have been an expensive risk for Celtic to take.
As it happens, we didn't take the risk, and ended up with a vastly different profile of goalkeeper who played like a £10million signing in any case.
Michael Zetterer - Werder Bremen
German outlet BILD reported that Celtic had concrete interest in the German keeper, Michael Zetterer, who stepped up last season in the absence of usual number one Jiri Pavlenka.
The 29-year-old had mostly been a backup keeper during his first nine years in Bremen, but has now established himself as first-choice and was rewarded with a new deal.
Tom Glover - Middlesbrough
Middlesbrough's 27-year-old keeper, Tom Glover, was linked with Celtic, Newcastle United and Rangers last season.
A former team-mate of Marco Tilio (remember him?), Glover's form for Melbourne City earned him a move to the English Championship and Middlesbrough, where he put in a remarkable performance in the FA Cup defeat against Aston Villa.
Glover hasn't played so much this season for Michael Carrick's side and it looks as though the interest in the Australian's services has dried up.
