ON THE EVE OF THE GLASGOW DERBY DAILY RECORD RAMP UP THE RHETORIC

There's plenty of Bull in the Daily Record today, but none of it is Red.

You’ve got to hand it to the Daily Record. They are nothing if not consistent.

On the day before Celtic are due to play Rangers in a game which lost any semblance of meaning when Celtic clinched the league title last weekend, they’ve ramped up the good vibes Rangers stories to a whole new level.

And of course, as usual, it’s a combination of wishful thinking, selective reporting and straight up fabrication.

Rangers Fans, Desperate for a Glasgow Derby Boost turn to The Daily Record and Their Monetization of False Hope

Let’s start with the biggest lie of the day. No, Marco Rose is not going to be the next Rangers manager.

He’s recently been sacked by RB Leipzig, and since they have a tie-up with Leeds United, who apparently will soon have the same ownership as Rangers he’s “the perfect candidate for the next Rangers manager.”

The phrase: "clutching at more straws than a self-abusing scarecrow" springs to mind.

So, their basis for this "story' rests on several assumptions and very little critique. Still, that's the usual when there's a Glasgow Derby and the Daily Record throw balance out the window.

Rose has worked for 2 clubs so far in the sphere of the Red Bull Group, RB Salzburg and then RB Leipzig. However, his first move was seen as a promotion of sorts. His recent dismissal is the exact opposite.

Look at it this way. You’re a company owner. You’ve got this guy who did a great job in a smaller regional office, so you move him to one of your head offices, with a promotion. He then makes a meal of his new assignment, leading to you having to let him go.

If another job comes up in a different regional office of that same company and he applies for it, are you going to give it to him?

No, of course not, because you just sacked him fairly recently.

Rose had been in negotiations to go and manage Al Ahly in Egypt. The Daily Record claims to have the inside track on those talks, and says they have collapsed.

On a side note, wouldn’t it be nice if the Record applied that same level of critique and journalistic inquiry to takeover deals a bit closer to home? Just a thought.

The fact that Rose is even considering places like Al Ahly ahead of other jobs in Europe tells me that his motivation is, probably, mostly financial at this point.

That’s not a criticism. He’s a good coach and football management is fickle. We all have to look after our own priorities.

Money however, is the one thing we know Rangers don’t have, as demonstrated by how long they persisted with Phillipe Clement.

If their much vaunted takeover does go through, it could still be months away.

The likelihood is the current owners will have to make a call in the next few weeks on whether to stick with the current manager or bring in a new one. But I can say for certain, it won’t be Marco Rose.
