ONCE AGAIN SCOTLAND'S SHAME EMBARASS US ALL

The offending banner from yesterday's match.
The offending banner from yesterday's match.

There was a veritable orgy of pain and anguish coming out of all crevices of Rangers fan media last night, in the wake of Celtic’s incredible second half fightback at Ibrox. Our friends over at Born Celtic have complied an excellent greatest hits compilation of the Angry Bear Agony, in the face of Celtic’s last minute penalty, for you to read at your leisure.

Just a reminder everyone, please be sure to drink those zombie tears responsibly!

However, things were quite different at half-time yesterday, with the Union Bears getting hyped up to the point that they decided to discard their black shirts and show their (very, very) white bodies off to the cameras. These hairless chimps seemed caught in a confusing pattern of trying to dance, racially abusing the Irish, and just generally looking like the gormless zombies that they are.

That reminds me, I must make some time tonight to try out the new Resident Evil game...

Still I guess their impromptu strip-show yesterday was better than pleasuring yourself outside the stadium for all to see (they have previous for that particular offence too).

But as we know, when triumphalism takes hold amongst the Ibrox Klan, racism and bigotry are never far behind. And so, it was the case yesterday too.

Even When They’re Winning Scotland’s Shame Still Care More About Hatred

Photos circulated in the aftermath of yesterday’s game show a banner which contained the following quotation: “May the Christian Lord Guide My Hand Against Your Roman Popery”.

Beneath the quote and accompanying image of the good Irish Bhoy that is Daniel Day-Lewis, is the slogan: “Rangers on Tour” accompanied with the co-opted British Rail logo.

This logo usually signifies the Intercity Firm (ICF), a gang of Neo-Nazi football hooligans and professional roundabout painters/statue molesters most commonly associated with Chelsea FC but who have also been known to show up at games involving Rangers and Millwall from time to time.

Expect the mainstream media, if they even bother covering this at all, to play up the usual narrative that it was “those damned Chelsea supporters in disguise” behind the banner.

The quote itself is a line from the excellent historical drama “Gangs of New York”. However, what relevance the fictional ramblings of a hate-fueled 19th century murderous bigot in North America have to do with a game of football in Glasgow on a Sunday afternoon are beyond me.

So much for the “Everyone, Anyone” sentiments Rangers love to trot out each time the worst elements of their support pull a stunt like this.

Yesterday, 2-0 up at half time and seemingly cruising to victory, it should have been a celebration for the Ibrox denizens. As usual though, the worst of them let their base instincts take over, and religious bigotry continues to dominate their minds (such as they are).

We saw two sides to Celtic yesterday, a team looking completely clueless in the first half, followed by an absolutely dominant second half that could easily have ended in a victory.

The side we saw of Rangers, with their black shirts, racist chants and Neo-Nazi banners was, unfortunately, exactly what I have come to expect from them.

I had hoped that the new American owners would have realized that such overt fascism is bad for a club’s international commercial viability, and stamped it out. Instead, with the Orange away kits, and tolerance of thuggery and venom that we saw yesterday, the new owners seem intent not only to allow this wound on the soul of Scottish society to continue to fester, they now actively seek to monetize it.

Scotland’s Shame and the vulture capitalists bankrolling them truly deserve each other.
