Let’s try a little thought experiment. I’ll show you the headline and you try to guess what the story is about.
Here Goes: “Hamza Igamane catches Real Madrid eyes as Morocco moment sparks clamour for Rangers star with 'bright future'”
Answers on a Postcard Please...
So, what do you think that means? Do Real Madrid have any interest in signing Igamane?
Are they perhaps one of several European clubs chasing the striker?
Did he score some kind of wonder goal for Morocco that got Real Madrid and others in Europe to take notice?
Of Course, It’s None of the Above
So, what is the basis for this Real Madrid led “clamour” for the young Moroccan?
Erm, apparently a Real Madrid Player responded with two fire emojis to one of Igamane’s own tweets.
Even by the Daily Record’s usual rock bottom standards, this is a whole new level of clutching at straws.
Real Madrid Completely Unconnected to the Story
The Real Madrid star in question was attacking midfielder Brahim Diaz. He was also part of the Morocco squad last week when Igamane made his international debut.
It seems Diaz was just doing what any decent person in his position would do, and offer a young teammate, no doubt nervous about making his international debut, a bit of encouragement.
That’s it. That’s the full extent of the story.
Really? That’s it?
Well, Morocco national coach Walid Regragui said of Igamane “He’s young and has a bright future ahead of him.”
For context, Igamane played a total of 8 minutes of football over Morocco’s 2 matches. I’ll be generous and say that the coach was trying to encourage the young striker, but I’m guessing the coach still doesn’t see enough there yet to warrant actually playing him.

A Decent Player, But That’s All
Taking the green tinted specs off for a minute, I’ll say this: Igamane looks like he has the makings of a decent player. His goal in the derby two weeks ago was an outstanding finish, in a high pressure situation, at a crucial time in the game.
There’s no denying that, and to do that in a Glasgow derby would probably warrant an international call up for any nation outside maybe the top 20 in the world.
Harmful to Players and Fans
However, nonsense like this isn’t going to help him develop. Indeed, if another outlet decides to take this mess of a story and run it as fact without bothering to check it, as happened with the Kyogo rumors last week, it could be genuinely harmful to the player and his prospects.
Certainly, I don’t think Real Madrid will appreciate having their name banded about by the Daily Record to try and sell yet another puff piece about Rangers.
How About the “Clamour”?
The Alleged “clamour” of interest in Igamane, well, that’s a complete mystery to me. There is nothing in this report to suggest any clubs are interested in signing Igamane at this time.
Could it be as simple as the folks at the Daily Record editorial section saying: “Eh, we need one more big and important sounding word to fill out this headline. How about clamour?”
“Aye, go with that. Hopefully most of the people who read it won’t know what it means anyway.”
They Really Do Think You are That Stupid
Honestly, that is the level of contempt with which I believe these rags hold their readers.
As I said before, Igamane has the makings of a decent player, and he may well go for a decent fee in the summer.
But it certainly won’t be to Real Madrid, no matter how many false narratives the Daily Record try to push on the subject.
