THE CONSISTENT PERFORMERS

Greg Taylor

Outside of a brief injury sustained early in the campaign, Taylor was a reliable fixture on the left flank. While he endured a demanding season, he provided solid, consistent displays week in and week out.

Following the return of Kieran Tierney, Taylor opted to seek a new challenge and departed the club on a free transfer in July 2025 to join Greek side PAOK.

Alistair Johnston

The Canadian international truly came alive in the second half of the season, significantly upgrading Celtic’s attacking threat from right-back. However, a somewhat stagnant and lacklustre opening few months under Rodgers meant he fell just short of the player of the year standard.

Although currently injured, Johnston continues to command the right-back role as a regular starter at Parkhead, despite ongoing transfer speculation linking him to clubs in the English Premier League.

THE BIG GAME PLAYERS

Daizen Maeda

The Japanese winger delivered several breathtaking performances during this double-winning campaign. His blistering pace and relentless work-rate were vital assets, particularly during the Champions League group stage and in the Glasgow derbies against Rangers.

Maeda went on to become the club's top goalscorer the following season, did more than anyone to win the double the season after that, then moved on to Ipswich Town for £10m after starring at the 2026 World Cup.

Callum McGregor

The skipper endured a slow start to the campaign but became indispensable once he found his rhythm. While an injury-disrupted spring prevented him from consistently reaching his absolute, brilliant best, his leadership during the run-in remained vital to securing the double.

McGregor continues to serve as Celtic's talismanic captain, anchoring the midfield as a central figure in the post-Rodgers era.

Kyogo Furuhashi

Once again, Kyogo proved to be the man for the big occasion. He stepped up with crucial goals against Rangers and made his mark on the Champions League stage. However, an uncharacteristic mid-season goal droughts meant he would not sweep the individual awards as comfortably as he had in previous years.

Kyogo eventually departed Celtic in January 2025 for a £10 million move to Rennes, and following a brief stint at Birmingham City, he has recently taken his talents to the MLS with LA Galaxy.

3 - Liam Scales

Had anyone suggested in the summer of 2023 that Scales would be in this conversation, they would have been laughed out of the room. Yet, the Irish defender enjoyed a remarkable resurgence, stepping up heroically during a severe centre-back injury crisis.

Asserting himself as a nailed-on starter, Scales picked up Player of the Match awards in the Champions League win over Feyenoord and the crucial victory at Ibrox, making it a highly impressive campaign.

Scales' remarkable turnaround eventually earned him a massive contract extension at the club running through to 2030, ensuring he remains a key part of the central defence.

2 - Matt O'Riley

The Danish midfielder took his game to an entirely different level under Brendan Rodgers.

As the standout performer across the first half of the season, O'Riley rightly caught the attention of Europe's elite. He was Celtic’s primary game-changer, producing elite numbers in goals and assists, and laying the groundwork for what would eventually become a club-record transfer departure.

O'Riley secured his big-money move in August 2024, joining English Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion in a record-breaking deal worth up to £30 million.

1 - Joe Hart

In his final season before retirement, Joe Hart rolled back the years. The Englishman pulled off a succession of crucial, match-winning saves that kept Celtic's title charge alive during their lowest ebbs.

In what was often a frustrating and transitional season for the club, Celtic would have been in a far worse position without his experience and leadership. Signing off his incredible career by inspiring a double-winning campaign made him the truly deserving recipient of Celtic’s Player of the Year.
