THE S*N GOES FULL FANBOY WITH 90 MILLION RANGERS TAKEOVER LIE

There’s been a lot of gloating, a whole lot “see, I told you so!” being fired back and forth over the past 24 hours since the new owners at Ibrox were finally confirmed.
However, after initially believing this takeover story to be made up, I have shifted my own opinion as the story evolved. However, I maintain that this isn’t the magical salvation that it’s being sold as to Rangers supporters. It isn’t a shifting of the balance of power of Scottish football.
A Rangers Takeover, or Picking Up a Distressed Asset on the Cheap?
It’s merely a bunch of moderately wealthy American investors seeing a killing to be made at a football club with an exceptionally desperate, exceptionally gullible fanbase, and an unquestioning media who will say whatever they are told to.
The S*n’s ridiculous headline this morning is just the start of this whole new era of unquestioning sycophancy.
The paper proudly proclaims “Rangers’ £90million American takeover”.
I must have missed that part of the memo issued yesterday. Rangers own statement talks about 20 million, most of which will come not from the new owners but from yet another share issue.
Meanwhile the new owners in their own open letter to The Rangers support spoke of the need for “thoughtful, disciplined investment, guided by a clear strategy.”
They further added: “Every decision, whether sporting or business, will be made with the club's long-term success and sustainability in mind.”
No mention of this phantom 90 million figure anywhere, and as usual, no sources provided by The S*n. Once again, they’re making the, probably correct, assumption that most of their own readers are too stupid to read beyond the big banner headline.
I’ve personally had several messages, some I am sad to say from fellow Celtic supporters today, basically calling me a liar, because this takeover eventually went through. Some have also said it’s time for “amateur bloggers” to stop trying to be journalists.
I speak only for myself here, and not for ACSOM or anyone else.
But to our detractors, I say: I’m not going anywhere. I will continue to challenge what I believe to be the lies in the mainstream press.
And there are still plenty of lies that were told in The Daily Record, The S*n et al over the past few months that will be casually swept aside now that some kind of takeover deal has gone through.
Even if this deal is but a mere shadow of what Keith Jackson and company promised in their initial, outrageously overblown blurbs.
I stand by everything I have said. Ultimately, I didn’t think this deal would go through because it didn’t make financial or commercial sense, and I gave that opinion honestly. But in the end, it did.
That does not mean I’m going to stop casting a critical eye over this deal, or the fallout from it. I will not look away as the media continue to lie through their teeth about the actual implications of this deal, and its wider effect on Scottish football.
That’s the thing about having an open mind, something which a great many of our friends down Ibrox way seem to lack. You can change your opinion as new evidence emerges. That’s not disingenuous, that’s not lying, it’s called critical thinking.
And as usual, less than a day after the initial story, The S*n has already gone into hyperbolic overload.

The 90 million figure is a complete fabrication, but sadly most people are too busy either gloating that “The Rangers are coming” yet again, or going after the very people who have been trying to get to the bottom of this story from day one: fan media.
The mainstream media will do their level best over the coming weeks to frame the Rangers Takeover as a vindication of their own outdated methods and an indictment of fan-led media like ACSOM. It isn’t.
There’s plenty they weren’t being truthful about before, and there remain many stories they will gladly put their own spin on to forward their own agenda. True, I have an agenda as well, but that’s because I’m a Celtic fan and I cover every story from that perspective. I don’t pretend to be anything else.
How many journalists at the Record, The S*n, the BBC etc. will actually come out and admit what team they support?
Anyway, back to the subject at hand, The S*n’s latest lies.
So, I’ll go on record right now. The S*n is lying today when they quote the figure of 90 million.
If they have evidence to the contrary, they are welcome to present it, and I will withdraw this accusation. Because, as I said, I am willing to change my stance as new information becomes available. I will not double down on mistakes.
But I don’t think this is a mistake, and I believe time will tell I was right in this regard.
And, suffice to say, don't buy The S*n!
