CELTIC BACK IN FOR TARGET FROM LAST SUMMER

Last summer, Celtic were linked with an almost innumerate number of players, as the summer dragged on and the fans got more and more restless. In the end, some deals went through and some didn’t.
However, if what I have heard today is correct, then we may be about to offer one of those who turned down Celtic last summer another chance.
Treat this as unconfirmed at the moment, but all I will say is that the source of this information has given me insight into such things before and is usually on the money.
Celtic “in talks” with Polish international Mateusz Bogusz
Back in August of 2024, Celtic came pretty close to signing Polish attacking midfielder Mateusz Bogusz. At that time, the 23 year old had just made his full international debut and was plying his trade in the MLS with Los Angeles FC.
In the end the deal fell through, but numerous sources at the time said that Celtic could revisit the subject in January. That didn’t happen though, as the unexpected departure of Kyogo and the equally surprising return of Jota took Celtic’s transfer priorities in a different direction.
Bogusz instead moved to Mexico to join Cruz Azul.
However, he is keen to add to his 5 Poland international caps and now believes a return to Europe could be the best way to make this happen.
Celtic continued to monitor the player after discussions concluded last August, and remain interested.
Bogusz was, according to my source, in Glasgow this week to discuss a potential move.
A goalscoring midfielder, Bogusz returned an impressive 24 goals from his 90 appearances for Los Angeles FC.
However, since joining Cruz Azul, he has found the net just twice in 22 games.

LA FC deployed him in more of a traditional number 10 role, whereas Cruz Azul have him playing as a more conventional central midfielder. Despite only being 5”9, Bogusz isn’t afraid to get his hands dirty and has, on occasion taken on the midfield “destroyer” role.
He certainly seems like a player who would enhance Celtic’s squad, even if he does lack the star quality that fans may be hoping for.
He is only 23 and still has time to develop, however, Bogusz already has a wealth of experience across a variety of leagues.
He started his career with local Polish top flight side Ruch Chorzow. His form over two season there earned him a move to Leeds United in the English Championship.
However, he only made 3 appearances during his time there and was later loaned out to Spanish second division sides Logrones and Ibiza FC.
After 2 seasons with Ibiza, he then made the permanent move to LA, where he played the best football of his career to date.
Celtic would undoubtedly be a step up in class, particularly in Europe for Bogusz, but he fits the profile we tend to go for.
He’s 23, already a full international, hungry to prove himself and has good potential sell-on value in a few years if things work out.
For now though, it’s a case of, watch this space.
