CELTIC TRUST ISSUES BRUTAL REBUKE OF BOARD’S LATEST “SUPPORTER UPDATE”

The Celtic Board cannot continue down their current path of needless agitation.
The Celtic Board cannot continue down their current path of needless agitation.

We spoke earlier today about the latest, exceptionally poorly timed intervention by the Celtic Board last night in their ongoing dispute with fans group The Green Brigade.

Well, now the Celtic Trust have weighed in with their take on the latest, nameless statement to appear on the official Celtic website.

With Friday’s AGM almost upon us, it seems positions are now being dug for what could be an exceptionally bruising meeting on Friday for the egos of those running Celtic.

Celtic Trust Condemn Latest “Oddly Timed Diatribe” From Club Media Team

In a takedown the likes of which the late Hulk Hogan would have been proud of, The Celtic Trust pull no punches in their response to yesterday’s statement.

Here’s what they said in full:

We note with increasing concern the ‘update’ published by the club at 18.45 yesterday (18/11/25).

This lengthy and oddly-timed diatribe appears to be yet another attempt to deflect from the Board’s own failings – failings which are acknowledged across a broad swathe of the support.

The timing of this intemperate attack is itself suspicious, coming as it does three days before what is likely to be the most difficult AGM this Board will face.

By publishing this irresponsible and dishonest piece which, in the absence of any investigation, accuses Celtic supporters of criminal acts, gives misleading information regarding the Safety Advisory Group and issues threats of more collective punishment, the Club is behaving in an inflammatory and unhelpful way.

We urge the Club to pull back from this approach and to commit to engaging in good faith with the support and we urge the wider support not to be misled by these divisive tactics nor to be diverted from the important task of holding the Board to account for their unsatisfactory performance.”

Pretty damning stuff, but I have to say, it’s hard to take issue with any of it. I don’t know who writes the Celtic Trust’s press releases, but they seem to have put far more thought and consideration into their choice of words today than the unnamed individual who penned yesterday’s official “Celtic Supporters Update”.

The issues of criminality, and collective punishment without even the pretention of the application of adequate investigation and due process offer the juiciest quotes for those seeking headlines.

However, I think it’s more pertinent to look at the overall tone of this statement. It’s not just a message intended to be combative and confrontational. If the Celtic Board have any sense, they’ll see it as a warning, a plea for them to alter course from the apparent head-on collision with large swathes of the Celtic support which seems almost inevitable now.

As I said earlier today, the timing of Celtic’s statement was questionable at best. It’s wording also, with the implied criminality, despite no charges being brought almost three weeks after an incident for which the club claim’s “The video evidence speaks for itself”, is extremely harmful, and potentially defamatory to those concerned.

However, in order for a defamation case to more forward, a named individual needs to have had their name sullied unjustly.

Maybe the Celtic Board think they’re being clever, by skirting around such laws through the use, and threat of further, collective punishments. Not a single individual has been identified in any of the evidence presented to the public thus far. Yet a supporters group numbering around 200 now find themselves banned from the stadium for a number of games.

I’ve yet to see any evidence yet that shows any more than 30-40 people involved in the incident in question. And as I said earlier, all Celtic’s video shows is some fans running up a tunnel into the concourse. There is no visual evidence of assault or indeed any violent conduct.

Unlike the statements coming out of Celtic’s official channels over the last few months, this one from the Celtic Trust is short, to the point, and does not leave any room for misunderstanding or misinterpretation.

The Celtic Board would do well to listen and take heed, but I think we all know they won’t.

Friday is almost here. A reckoning beckons.
