DAILY RECORD ONCE AGAIN TRIES TO GASLIGHT CELTIC FANS

We live in especially volatile times. The words of an individual or a group can influence the actions of thousands, sometimes millions both for the good or the bad.
In the information age, knowledge is power, and to quote the late Stan Lee: “With great power comes great responsibility.”
Record Already Planning to Blame Celtic Fans for Any Trouble
But the Daily Record don’t care about any of that. They’re too busy laying the groundwork to place the blame firmly at the feet of the Celtic support if anything untoward should happen on Saturday.
With today’s story. once again, The Daily Record have completely ignored the golden rule of journalism, that being that your main job is always to ask questions, not just blindly reprint what you’re told without any thought, analysis or critique.
Of course, blindly reprinting is exactly what the Record have chosen to do with Glasgow City Council’s vindictive, manipulative and totally one-sided statement regarding Celtic fans’ plans to gather for another title celebration on Saturday afternoon.
The Record reprinted the Council’s Statement word for word, whilst completely ignoring the obvious questions it raises.
Namely, what is the cost of hosting other events compared to the cost of Celtic’s title party?
How do these costs compare with the weekly costs of cleaning up the likes of Sauchiehall Street every weekend, after a night of clubbing and boozing from the general public?
And the big, bloated, malignant elephant in the room: Why has nobody at Glasgow City Council made the same requests of the Orange Order and its acolytes that are now being asked of the Celtic support?

The Daily Record report also notes that there were 19 people arrested last year and 4 police officers injured. Of course, no specifics on the arrests or injuries are given beyond the numbers. Afterall, just that little bit of digging deeper would completely derail the narrative the Record is trying to set.
All of the arrests were for drunken or disorderly behavior, none resulted in criminal convictions. Again, isn’t this comparable to what we see on a typical Saturday night in any major city where there’s a large group of people getting sloshed?
Also, for the sake of balance, the record mentions the fact that an Orange Walk is scheduled for the same date and place as Celtic’s title party, but that’s all.
They also seem to be at pains to emphasize that the Orange Walk was planned long before any Celtic Fans ‘Title Party. As if that somehow give them a moral imperative.
As I’ve said before and I’ll repeat it again, the whole concept of Orange Walks is about 300 years out of date. So, the fact they might have a month or two up on us in terms of scheduling really shouldn’t come into it.
This isn’t some playground game where you get to say “I was here first, so it’s mine!”.
This is a real-life situation with the real potential for violence. Yet there seem to be no adults in the room whatsoever.
Again, the Daily Record, just like Glasgow City Council kowtows to the bigotry and hatred of the Orange Order.
They won’t even ask the question about why a parade, supposedly about VE Day, which was more than a week ago, needs to happen on that day, and needs to go through predominantly catholic areas.
Yes, we know their enablers and sycophants in the press will quote chorus and verse about the OO’s perceived “right to march wherever they please”.
Though as Jeff Goldblum put in, when discussing similarly anachronistic animals in Jurassic Park: “People were so preoccupied with if they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should.”
It’s high time Orange Walks went the same way as the dinosaurs, and hopefully it won’t be too long until the likes of the Daily Record join them.
