WE LOST, BUT THIS IS NO TIME TO CONCEDE FOR CELTIC

There can be only one at the end of the season. Will it be Celtic?

Alright, I wont sugar coat it. We were gubbed today, and in all honesty we were gubbed by the better team.

Dundee United showed more hunger, more drive and more desire. Quite frankly, taking skill out of the equation, they wanted it more than we did.

Now, is this a season ending result? No, it isn’t. However, the lessons must be learned immediately, and we must act upon them, or else this season truly is a lost cause.

Celtic are Still in it, But this is our Last Chance

It’s time for some harsh truths. Martin O’Neill has worked miracles thus far to get us to where we are, but that amazing work has its limits,

He’s trying to get a tune out of a team that is tired, uninspired and lacking in genuine quality, These are limitations imposed on him by our utterly incompetent and ineffectual board. Whatever happens between now and the end of the season, I hope you all remember that.

Martin O’Neill is the greatest Celtic manager of the past 50 years and nothing that happens in the next couple of months will change that.

I still believe Celtic can win this league. I believe that in Hearts and the club over at Ibrox that calls itself Rangers, we have two opponents that will drop points between now and our final clash with them in the last five games of this season.

Make no mistake though, as Kenny Rodgers might put it we have been on “The Gambler’s” final table. We knew when to hold them, we knew when to fold them, we may have knew when to walk away and when to run, but, regardless of it all our board made sure that we made a total arse of it.

Perhaps a better metaphor may be derived from one of my favorite films, the vastly underrated 1986 Indy hit Highlander: “In the end, there can be only one.”

The problem is, right now, I’m genuinely not sure if that one will be Celtic, Hearts, or the Govan Dodgers.

It’s especially frustrating because, as someone who also has deep-rooted sympathies for the Scottish, Japanese and Irish national teams, I can handle it when we are “genuinely gubbed” by a superior team. But, with regards to Celtic this season, whatever may happen, that won’t be the case.

Neither Hearts nor the “Tonight Matthews” over at Ibrox (if you don’t get that reference youngsters, Google “Stars in Their Eyes”) are particularly good. Rather, our own underperformance has created the illusion of competitiveness,

This is still Celtic’s league to lose. However, while Hearts, under the excellent guidance of Tony Bloom remain the pace-setters, we will struggle to compete, until our board accepts the realities of the modern business world and adapt accordingly.
