WILFRIED NANCY AND PAUL TISDALE SACKED: HERE’S THE ONE THING CELTIC MUST DO NEXT

It's going to be a Busy Few Days For us all At ACSOM
It's going to be a Busy Few Days For us all At ACSOM

I listed after Saturday’s embarrassing defeat that there were 5 Critical Steps Celtic had to take to salvage this season.

Well, in a move completely uncharacteristic of the Celtic Board, they’ve actually met two of my five criteria within the past hour.

Wilfried Nancy and Paul Tisdale, the two men most responsible for Celtic’s current woes, at least those on the pitch, have left Celtic.

The entire backroom team that Nancy brought with him have also been removed from post with immediate effect.

So, where do we go from here?

I want to emphasize something here once again, that I was at pains to stress in Saturday’s summation of events.

I know how it feels to lose your job. I know the horrible feeling of giving it your all, only to be told that its not enough, and here’s your P45.

So, as much as I am glad that these men are no longer employed by Celtic, I wish Nancy, Tisdale and the entirety of the backroom staff all the best for the future. I hope they will find happiness and success in whatever they do next.

As one of my friends put it, Celtic will probably give us an update on what happens next, just as soon as Martin O’Neill answers his phone!

Jokes aside, I think most Celtic fans would see Martin O’Neill as the man best placed to get us back on course for title 56.

In any case, whoever takes the Celtic job on next, will most likely find themselves in the same boat as Neil Lennon did when Brendan Rodgers walked for the first time. Get the title won and you’ll probably have a good chance of getting the job full-time at the end of the season.

For the time being though, I think whoever takes charge of Celtic next will do so on an interim basis.

Strangely enough though, I do not think that who our new manager is will be the most important point here.

Instead, I think that what matters more is, will the manager be given the control to bring in the players he thinks he needs to in order to get us back on top?

Paul Tisdale was supposed to have played a key role in this, as our “football doctor”. I personally think we’d have been better off if we’d employed Dr Hannibal Lecter!

Seriously though, this transfer window now becomes one of the most important we’ve ever had. There is no margin for error. As soon as we get a new boss in, he needs the freedom to go out and get the 5 or 6 players we need to have any chance of winning the league.

Personally, I’d love to see Ange Postecoglou back, but I’d be happy with Martin O’Neill too.

Whoever comes in now, they need the entire Celtic support behind them. And I mean all of us, even those the board consider “unsavory elements”. We’ve emptied a failing manager, we’ve parted ways with an incompetent head of football operations. Now it’s time to bring the Green Brigade back, and turn a new page in fan relations.

If not, then I believe Michael Nicholson may soon follow Peter Lawwell out of the Board room and down to the Job Center!

This is not the end of Celtic’s crisis, but it is a turning point and an opportunity to begin to heal the self-inflicted harm that has gone all the way back to last summer when we failed to recruit for Europe.

The fightback begins now!
