WILLIAM BOVING: CELTIC LINE UP MOVE FOR STURM GRAZ ATTACKER

Celtic have been linked with a few different Danes over the last few days.

We can expect a lot of transfer rumors and “exclusives” over the next few days. However, this one may have slipped under the radar, but comes from sources I trust.

Celtic are weighing up a move for 22-year-old Sturm Graz forward William Boving.

The Danish under 21 international is valued at around 3 million pounds. However, Mainz in Germany, Girona in Spain, and his former club FC Copenhagen are also monitoring the situation closely.

Boving is also understood to be attracting some attention from clubs in the English Championship too.

Able to operate as both a conventional center-forward and in the more creative number 10 role, Boving has also played on the wing for both club and country on numerous occasions. He is certainly versatile.

It seems someone at Celtic has put the “Championship Manager” search filters on again because, you’ve guessed it, Boving has just entered the final year of his Sturm Graz contract.

As an FC Copenhagen youth team star from the age of 10, Boving broke into the Danish giants first team in 2020. Over the next season and a half he would go on to make 44 appearances, scoring 5 goals, albeit whilst playing as a winger.

His form was good enough to catch the attention of Austrian top flight side Sturm Graz, who opted to sign the young forward for 2.2 million Euros in 2022.

Since then, he has gone on to establish himself as one of Sturm Graz’s most valued assets. Last season he managed a combined 23 goals and assists, as Sturm Graz finished second in the Austrian Bundesliga.

Whilst Celtic finally got the deal over the line for Michel-Ange Balikwisha yesterday, the seemingly imminent departures of both Yang Hyun-Jun and Adam Idah, leave us needing further firepower upfront and more wingers. Boving could provide both.

He has attracted a lot of interest since he appeared at the European Under-21 Championships for Denmark this past summer. However, no firm offers for him have come in yet and, as we all know, the transfer window closes in a matter of days.

To secure William Boving Celtic will need to move quick on this one. However, according to my sources, the initial scouting and sounding out of the player has already been completed. What’s needed now is a firm offer from Celtic (How many times have I said that this summer?).

Nonetheless, this is a player ready to make the next move in his career. He’s only 22, has bags of potential, and has already produced results at a fairly high level. If Celtic can get this one over the line for in or around the mooted 3-million-pound fee, then it would represent a great bit of business, and an undoubted upgrade in vital areas of the squad.
