AS THE S*N CALLS OUT ABERDEEN FANS’ HATE CRIME RANGERS SILENCE REMAINS

If there’s one publication that has no right whatsoever to start lecturing us on morality and decency, it’s The S*n.

The paper’s penchant for selective reporting continued this morning, as they reported on the criminal charges levied against Aberdeen supporters for mocking and abusing a disabled St. Mirren fan during their Scottish Premiership clash back in May.
The S*n Still Ignores Scotland’s Most Frequent Source of Hate Crime: Rangers
For the avoidance of doubt, I need to make it clear that Aberdeen and St. Mirren both acted with the utmost professionalism and respect for the victim in this case.
No aggressive statements blaming others, no attempts to downplay the seriousness of what happened, no deflection tactics whatsoever.
Aberdeen came out and apologized unreservedly, assumed responsibility and cooperated fully with police in the subsequent investigation.
Fans from both sides have universally condemned the disgusting conduct of the seven individuals now facing possible prison time.
Yet, for The S*n to devote so much page space to this story, and to adopt such a preachy tone in their commentary, whilst habitually ignoring the weekly hate crime Rangers fans commit en masse, is nothing short of repulsive.

Verbally abusing a mentally impaired individual is the sort of behavior that needs to be consistently called out and condemned.
That’s not “woke”, that’s not “censorship” (as some of the morally bereft people in the paper’s comments section claim) it's how normal, decent human beings should act.
Emphasis here should be on the idea of: “consistently called out”.
There is no difference between those 7 Aberdeen fans mocking that young St. Mirren supporter, and 40,000+ Rangers supporters actively mocking a historical genocide in Ireland, using racist songs.
The S*n won’t be writing any preachy editorials about this though. It’s easy to condemn seven Aberdeen fans. What are they going to do about it?
However, actually having the integrity and moral fortitude to call out widespread racism and bigotry, spewed forth by tens of thousands of people, takes actual journalistic courage.
I doubt most of the staff of The S*n could even spell this ideal, let alone practice it.
Hate has many forms, and if our press are serious about calling it out and stopping it, then they need to do so for all forms of hatred and intolerance.
There can be no favoritism. If Aberdeen fans get deserved flack for their despicable conduct, then so too must Rangers.
It’s time for our media to grow up. But, I won’t hold my breath. Don't buy The S*n.
