It's time to take our club back. Starting this Sunday
It's time to take our club back. Starting this Sunday

Last night’s meeting of the new, and as of yet unnamed, Celtic fan collective, put forward several ideas for forms of protest and specific actions to bring about the change most fans now feel is necessary.

As the first step in what has been described as a “strategic and escalatory campaign against the board”, Celtic fans are being asked to enter Rugby Park this Sunday 10 minutes after kick-off.

With the game being live on TV this will no doubt attract significant media attention, as well as embarrassment for the board members in attendance.

Of course, not everyone is on board with the idea of entering the stadium late, worried that it shows a lack of support for the team at the beginning of, what is almost always, a difficult and turgid fixture at Kilmarnock.

With that in mind, organizers are keen to stress that this is not a “picket line” scenario.

Different people support Celtic in different ways. So, whilst the request is for fans to wait until the 10th minute to enter the stadium, any Celtic fan who chooses to go in ahead of kick-off will not be subject to any abuse or other reprisals from those who do take part in the protest.

I think we all expect the Celtic Board to employ a number of divisive and diversionary tactics over the next few weeks, as it finally comes into focus for them that the usual “ignore them until they get bored and go home” approach isn’t going to work this time.

So, from my own point of view, I am glad to see this level of understanding and respect for differing opinions in our wider fanbase.

Our unity is our greatest strength, which is why I expect it to be the primary focus of the inevitable counter-offensive from those in power at Celtic. Maintaining that togetherness is absolutely crucial.

This will probably be a far longer, and more involved battle for control of Celtic than we faced in 1994. Staying on target, and not allowing factionalism to detract from our ultimate goals is essential.

I believe we can do that. After all we’ve seen what happens to other clubs in Glasgow who allow factionalism, arrogance and a sense of entitlement to rule their heads.

They let their club die.

Celtic on the other hand, will always endure, long after everyone in the current boardroom is long gone.
