GIUSEPPE AMBROSINO: CELTIC LINKED ITALIAN IS MORE THAN JUST ANOTHER YOUNG STRIKER

Whilst Shin Yamada still remains on Celtic’s “possible” list of incoming players, it seems Celtic are exploring other striking alternatives. The latest to be linked today is Italian Under-21-star Giuseppe Ambrosino.

The 21-year-old was a stand-out for the Azzurri’s under-21 side as they reached the quarter finals of last month’s European Under-21 Championship.
Giuseppe Ambrosino: Celtic Considering “Loan with Option to Buy” According to Sources in Italy
Ambrosino is currently contracted to Italian champions Napoli, although he has yet to make a 1st team start for the Serie A giants.
However, this is a different situation from that of our other recent attacking acquisition Callum Osmand, who caught Celtic’s attention with a series of outstanding performances for Fulham’s reserve team last season, but never made an English Premier League appearance.
A Napoli youth team member since the age of 10, Ambrosino has spent 4 different loan spells in Serie B, gaining experience at a variety of clubs since turning professional in 2022. Most recently, he’s been on loan at Frosinone, where he scored 5 goals in 36 appearances last season.
Now, these stats might not sound great. In fact, you’re probably thinking right now “why are we interested in a striker who can’t score”.
However, Ambrosino is not any ordinary player. There is a whole lot more to his game than just goals.

Much like our own Daizen Maeda, he can play anywhere across the front line: left, right or center.
A can also play the “false 9” role, in behind the main striker or as a playmaking “number 10” type.
Also, bear in mind the status of Frosinone. They finished 15th in Serie B in 2024-25 and flirted with relegation for much of the season.
In fact, Ambrosino is regarded by the Giallazzurri fans as one of the main reasons they won’t be playing in Serie C from this autumn.
One of the most positive aspects of the initial Sky Sports Italia report is the fact that Ambrosino himself is said to be very keen on a move to Celtic.
Word is, this would be a loan with an option to buy. In my opinion, it is that second point that is absolutely crucial. There needs to be a reasonable, pre-agreed fee we can buy the player for next summer if he lives up to his early promise.
Napoli clearly value the player, as they haven’t shown any interest in making any of his previous 4 loan moves permanent.
However, at 21 years old, Ambrosino needs to be playing regularly at the highest level possible. He’ll have one eye on next summer’s World Cup, though personally, I think that may be a bit too soon for him.
Nonetheless a good showing in the Champions League could help, and if he really lights up Europe next season then anything is possible.
