IS ISAK JANSSON CELTIC’S READY-MADE KUHN REPLACEMENT?

With Nicholas Kuhn all but departed from Celtic, and the prospect of Yang Hyun Jun possibly leaving as well, Celtic will, almost certainly seek to bring in a wide player at the earliest opportunity.

According to reports emerging this morning, Celtic may actually return to the same well that gave us Nicholas Kuhn to begin with. Several sources this morning linked Celtic with a possible move for Rapid Vienna’s highly rated Swedish wideman Isak Jansson.
Who is Isak Jansson, Celtic’s Latest Prospective Winger?
Ironically, it was Celtic’s acquisition of Kuhn, back at the start of 2024, that actually got Jansson his move to the Austrian side.
The 23 year old previously played in the Spanish second tier with Cartagena. After moving to Rapid on loan at the start of 2024, he impressed his new club enough to earn a permanent move there last summer.
Although naturally right-footed, Jansson more often plays on the left flank. So, if Celtic were planning to go with Daizen Maeda at center-forward next season then this move would make sense.
However, even if that’s not the case, Jansson has the versatility to operate on either wing.
He’s also a player likely to excite the Celtic support if he does make the move over to Glasgow.
In an age when all too many wingers take the easy option and opt for the easy pass infield or to try to cut inside, Jansson is an old-fashioned winger.
His dribbling is one of his key attributes, as is his ability to beat a man and hit the byline.
He would definitely offer Celtic something we’ve been lacking of late: that little bit of maverick unpredictability.

Jansson initially joined Rapid for just 200,000 pounds last summer, but he has been one of their best players this past season. So, if Celtic are indeed looking at signing him, then the fee is likely to be in the same range as what we paid for Nicholas Kuhn, at around 3 million.
Currently a Swedish under-21 cap, Jansson has made no secret of his desire to join Celtic’s recent recruit Benjamin Nygren in the full Sweden international set-up.
A move to Celtic would certainly bring him closer to this goal, and would also be a great bit of business for Celtic.
It remains to be seen if Jansson is indeed the man to replace Nicholas Kuhn at Celtic. However, his age, profile and price range certainly fit Celtic’s development model.
If he continues to improve at Celtic as he has at Rapid Vienna, then we could be looking at another Nicholas Kuhn level profit in a couple of years.
