“IS IT ‘COS I IS SCOTTISH?” BARRY FERGUSON’S TONE-DEAF COMMENTS BRING RIDICULE FROM CELTIC FANS

Ferguson's failure has nothing to do with his nationality.
Ferguson's failure has nothing to do with his nationality.

Well, it had to end sometime. We knew the joy, the exuberance and that feeling of happiness couldn’t last forever.

Yes, last weekend Rangers finally won at Ibrox, ending almost 3 months of laughter from the Celtic support.

However, much like the Rangers support, their soon to be ex-manager just doesn’t know when it’s a good idea to keep your head down and your mouth shut.

Having overseen a record-breaking barren spell of home matches, something unsurpassed by either incarnation of Rangers, Ferguson decided contrition wasn’t the order of the day.

Instead, he went for that familiar right-wing scapegoat: “bloody foreigners”.

Ferguson said at his press conference yesterday “If I was somebody from a different country, I think we would have got a bit more respect.”

So, that’s his answer? Nothing to do with him being statistically the worst manager in Rangers 13-year history, it’s all because he’s Scottish.

There's a bit of the Andy Murray about this. British when they win and Scottish when they lose!

Funny that, because despite the seeming handicap of being Scottish, John McGlynn managed to secure manager of the year for his miraculous work at Falkirk.

David Gray continues to garner praise for the way he has turned Hibs around. There’s a multitude of Scottish managers out there who have done really well this season.

Barry Ferguson isn’t one of them, and it’s got nothing to do with where he was born.

Let’s face it. He was hired because he was cheap, and because the Rangers board, in desperation, decided that getting in someone who was a “Staunch Rangers Man” was more important than getting in someone who actually knows how to run a football team.

Ferguson was a superb player in his day, maybe one of the best, but he has yet to show any acumen as a manager. Celtic fans have been saying this from day one, but as usual our friends across town insisted they knew better.

Paranoia like this will not do him or the rest of his backroom team any favors when the time inevitably comes in the next few weeks that they have to begin searching for a new job.

Barry, it’s got nothing to do with you being Scottish, it’s because you’re a p*ss poor manager.

That’s the harsh reality. Until he accepts that and works on it, he will never progress in management.

As we so often say whenever Celtic are erroneously compared to Rangers as “rivals”, it’s all about levels.

Celtic have an elite-level manager who has coached in the English Premier League along with his wealth of experience and contacts.

Rangers got the guy who’d been sacked by Alloa along with a couple of his drinking buddies.
