AN HONEST QUESTION: DO THE CELTIC BOARD THINK WE ARE STUPID?

Fans continue to press for change, the half-hearted announcement today only adds to that urgency.

Sometimes, I get angry when I see media, fans of other clubs and others taking cheap shots at Celtic. Other times, I see what the Celtic Board does, and I just have to throw my hands back and say “just how f*cking stupid do they think we are?”

The Celtic Board continues to ignore the very respectful and reasonable letter served to them more than two weeks ago.

Yet today, they take to social media, complete with commentary from our eternally absent Chairman Peter Lawwell on the completion of our new Barrowfield Training Complex.

I’m sure I’m not the only one who remains unimpressed.

Barrowfield Complex Complete but Celtic Board Remain Silent on Issues That Matter

Much of the manufactured clamor coming out of Celtic’s 30-strong media team today centers around the tremendous boost this new complex offers both the Celtic B Team and the Celtic Women’s Team.

That’ll be the same B-Team that continues to fail to produce decent prospects ready to step up to the first team, and the women’s team that gets routinely strip-mined for its best players every season while the club makes little if any effort to keep our strongest talents on board.

I have always been a strong and unapologetic advocate for the Celtic Women’s team. I enjoy watching women’s football. That last minute from Amy Gallacher goal to win the league in 2024 is up there alongside my very favorite moments from my 35 years of following Celtic.

Watching that team get broken up almost immediately afterwards was heartbreaking, but par for the course with Celtic Women.

That they remain competitive this season is down to the incredible work of the manager Elena Sadiku, and in spite of, not because of the efforts of Celtic as a club.

It might not be a universally popular view, but it’s my belief. Anyone who wears those Green and White hoops, male or female, B-team or first team, they are all Celtic players, and I give them all my unconditional support.

We can’t deny though that both the women’s team and the B-Team have been chronically under resourced. The façade of the opening of a new training facility, the exact role of which remains unclear, does nothing to change that.

Barrowfield is a start. But if the Celtic Board really want either the B-Team or the Women’s Team to reach their full potential, then far more care, attention and investment is necessary.
